Common Questions About Vioxx

Who's at risk?
Anyone who takes Vioxx is increasing their risk of exposure to its numerous dangers - especially heart attack - and its potential side effects. Be sure to discuss these with your doctor.
Serious problems from stomach ulcers, such as bleeding, are well-known complications in people treated with Vioxx, as with all NSAIDs. The likelihood of stomach problems increases the longer you take Vioxx, however, even short-term use is not without risk. These problems can occur without warning, but some people might experience symptoms such as gnawing or burning stomach pain, black or tarry stools, or vomiting.
Vioxx and other NSAIDs have also been known to cause liver damage. Some of the warning signs of liver damage include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, loss of appetite, itching, yellowing of skin or eyes, "flu-like" symptoms and dark urine.
Vioxx may be especially risky for you if you:
- have had ulcers or stomach bleeding
- have had asthma, hives, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
- have severe kidney problems
- have severe liver problems
- are pregnant
